2025 CFL Winter Tournament Recap

The 2025 Christian Fellowship League Winter Tournament delivered its share of challenges, surprises, and ultimately a memorable championship—just not quite in the order we originally planned.

Weather Woes & Schedule Shifts

The tournament was set for Saturday, December 6 (Men’s Division) and Sunday, December 7 (Coed Division). However, Saturday morning greeted us with a snow-covered field—beautiful to look at, impossible to play on—forcing us to postpone the Men’s Division. Colorado weather once again reminded us that even the best plans answer to Mother Nature first.

Sunday, on the other hand, felt like it belonged to an entirely different week. The snow had completely melted, conditions were stable, and temperatures climbed from the mid-30s into the low-40s. Cool, but nothing a good warm-up and some sideline coffee couldn’t handle.

A Minor Hurdle to Start the Day

As teams checked in Sunday morning, we encountered one unexpected obstacle: the field was double-booked with a soccer club. For a moment, it looked like we might be negotiating a merger between flag football and fútbol. Thankfully, with quick coordination and support from Denver Parks and Recreation, the situation was resolved efficiently, and we were able to begin on time.

Coed Division Championship: A Fast-Paced Finish

Once play began, the tournament ran smoothly, and the Coed Division delivered an exceptional championship game.

The Down and Dirty Dawgs defeated the Bullies 47–44 in a high-energy, back-and-forth matchup. The Bullies kept the game alive with two successful onside plays—an impressive feat that had both teams and spectators on edge. Their third attempt, however, ended in heartbreaking fashion when the player slipped just five yards short of midfield, sealing the Dawgs’ victory. It was a dramatic ending to a game that showcased resilience, skill, and competitive spirit from both sides. Watch entire game

Men’s Division Rescheduled

With Saturday’s snowout, the Men’s Division has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 13 at Valverde Park. We look forward to completing the tournament and will provide a full recap of the Men’s results next week.
